Defence Tech Meet-up #2: Startups, VCs, Geopolitics panel
On the margins of WebSummit 2024, the 2nd edition of the Portugal Defence Tech Meet-up brought together a cross-sector community of defence professionals, startups, investors, and public sector representatives to discuss the evolving landscape of European defence innovation in Lisbon, this time with a focus on maritime security.
The Defense Tech Meetup is an invitation-only event that will gather representatives of the government and armed forces, researchers, defence sector companies, associations, investors, and technology developers looking for a platform to discuss current challenges, ideas, and collaboration opportunities.
The Diplomat’s Cabinet was pleased to take part in the evening’s conversations by moderating a panel on startup-VC collaboration for a more resilient and geopolitical Europe.
The programme included:
Briefings from the Portuguese Navy and Air Force on sensing and surveillance capabilities in Europe’s largest maritime jurisdiction.
Startup pitches showcasing tech from quantum encryption to remote power for offshore sensors.
A forward-looking conversation with representatives from Critical Software, Faber Ventures, and the NATO Innovation Fund, on how startups can engage defence ecosystems and financing structures
The event was co-organised by Productized with the support of partners including Critical Software and the Estonian Founders Society.
As Europe's defence challenges evolve, initiatives like this meetup are helping build the connective tissue between state and startup, technology and strategy, innovation and implementation.
